3927 Stoddard Rd, Canan
On 5/26/24 at about 9:00pm, this office became involved in an animal cruelty investigation after Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 3927 Stoddard Road in the Town of Hopewell NY for a separate unrelated complaint involving Mr. Scrivener. At this time, they checked the barn on his property and observed at least five horses standing in 5-6 feet of manure in two separate inside corrals. This manure was so high that the horses could not exit the barn. As they checked the area around the barn several bones were located in another exterior coral that was attached to the barn. After the deputies left this location and concluded their investigation, they reported this incident to this office. As this investigation continued a search warrant was obtained and executed on 5/30/24. At this time the remains of three horses were found in the barn and attached corral. In addition, the hooves of the five horses were found to be to the point they had curled up due to several years of neglect and were not being checked regularly by a veterinarian. The horses did have hay to eat but little water. At this time the five horses were seized and removed from the property. Mr. Scrivener was arrested and charged with Animal Cruelty (5 counts-misdemeanor) and was also charged with Failure to Provide Food/Water to an Impounded Animal (5-counts-misdemeanor). Both were issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Hopewell Court at a later date and released. These horses are being kept at a local livestock business and are being cared for. This incident is not related to the case that took 889 Crowley Road reported on 6/3/24.
