Volunteer Guidelines & Hold Harmless Agreement Happy Tails Animal Shelter at the Ontario County Humane Society values our volunteers and considers your safety our number-one priority. We are grateful for your commitment to the shelter and strive to make your time here a rewarding experience. To ensure this, we humbly ask that you: 1) Respect the rules of the shelter and each other. 2) Honor your scheduled shift—please don’t come to the shelter without advance notice. We know how precious your time is and don’t want you coming all the way if there’s nothing for you to do. 3) Call the shelter if you won’t be able to fulfill your shift at (585) 396-4590. Many of the animals sheltered at the Ontario County Humane Society are being held as "evidence" in ongoing court cases. Because of that, as a volunteer, I agree to the following confidentiality guidelines: 1) Cell phones should not be brought out while in the kennels without permission. 2) Photos of our animals are prohibited without express permission. 3) Recordings are prohibited. 4) Court cases may not be discussed. 5) Unless authorized, handling of our dogs is done solely by our staff members. I hereby release and agree to hold harmless the promoters, owners and lessees of the premises, the participants, and officers, directors, officials, representatives, agents and employees of all of them, of and from liability, loss, claim, and demands that may occur from loss, damage or injury (including death) to my person, property or pet in any way resulting from or arising in connection with this, and whether arising while engaging animals or preparation therefore, or while upon entering or departing from said premises, from any cause whatsoever except liability loss, claim and demands that occur as a direct result of the negligent acts of the Ontario County Humane Society or its agents. I know the risk and danger to myself, property and pets while upon said premises, so voluntarily and in reliance upon my own judgment and ability, I thereby assume all risk of loss, damage or injury (including death) to myself and my property from any cause whatsoever, except where such loss, damage or injury (including death) is the direct result of negligent acts of the Ontario County Humane Society or its agents.I have read the Volunteer Guidelines & Hold Harmless Agreement and understand it. I understand and agree that Happy Tails is not responsible for any injury or property damage arising out of the Volunteer Activities, even if caused by their ordinary negligence or otherwise. I understand that participation in the Volunteer Activities involves certain risks, including, but not limited to, serious injury and death. I am voluntarily participating in the Volunteer Activities with knowledge of the danger involved and I agree to accept all risks of participation. I also agree to indemnify and hold harmless Happy Tails for all claims arising out of my participation in the Volunteer Activities. I agree to adhere to the Ontario County Humane Society’s policies and carry out my duties as a volunteer effectively. Minors need to be at least 16 to volunteer without an adult present, although the Ontario County Humane Society reserves the right to ask for an adult to be present for minors 16 and over. The Ontario County Humane Society recommends that all volunteers be current on their tetanus vaccination. There is not coverage or payment to volunteers for injuries/illnesses that happen related to your volunteer position. The Ontario County Humane Society follows the City of Canandaigua School District’s weather closings; if the school district closes for inclement weather, volunteers are asked not to report. Your information will not be shared, except in the case of another staff member or volunteer wishing to reach you for a work-related purpose. All volunteers are expected to maintain confidentiality of any personal information of members, customers, staff, or volunteers they encounter in the course of their work here.
